Los Angeles has the highest percentage of undereducated adults of any major metropolitan area in the U.S., with 53% of all working-age adults in L.A. (3.8 million people) who can’t read well enough to use a bus schedule or complete a job application.
Launched in June 2003 to address the problem of low-literacy, Literacy@Work is an innovative public/private partnership of organizations dedicated to the advancement of workforce literacy.
The Literacy@Work Project develops and implements customized literacy trainings for the workplace.
Literacy@Work partners with the following organizations:

- Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce
- Los Angeles City Workforce Investment Board
- Los Angeles Community College District
- Los Angeles Unified School District
- Volunteer Center of Los Angeles
- University of Southern California
- United Way of Greater Los Angeles
